LEJOG 2016 – Raising Money for Rockinghorse

Just before Christmas we were able to complete the final leg of the Lands End to John O’Groats journey (LEJOG) that dominated my 2016.

The ride was part-inspired through the loss of a dear friend who during her cancer treatment rode a tandem with her husband in the New Forest in Hampshire to support me while I competed in an ironman distance triathlon! Mo was Matron of the A&E department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and as a mum to three boys was often involved in Pediatrics.

In discussion with the Rockinghorse Charity and some of the staff at The Royal Alex Children’s Hospital based at the Royal Sussex we set about trying to raise funds for a mobile entertainment solution that could be used in waiting areas and on the wards.

The initial target was £2500, however by the end of the ride through fantastic support of family, friends, suppliers, competitors and customers our final tally was £5,299

As a result with the monies raised we ended up creating these three mobile entertainment stations which were wrapped with this bespoke Brighton scene by our friends at The Sussex Sign Company, the units are big and strong and hopefully will be able to cater with much use and lots of wheeling around the Children’s wards!

Each mobile station includes an HD gaming monitor, x-box plus two x-box controllers along with games & videos suitable for all age groups that are treated by the Alex.

LEJOG was an amazing ride over 14 days, Facebook proved a brilliant tool for keeping family and friends up to date with a daily blog post and it was just amazing watching the fundraising pot grow every day with donations.

If you fancy a challenge, I high recommend the company Peak Tours that managed all the logistics on the tour.
